The Infinite Happiness Machine
By JOSE ESPINEL
“What does it do?”
It:
- Unabashedly rubs shoulders,
Even the rough ones!
- And its hands remain open to greet yours,
Even the rough ones!
- Draws you close in
Indiscriminate embrace,
- Sours your anger fully to
Sweetness,
- Radiates upon your countenance
A sort of electric warmth –
Enough to bake away
Tears, to see clearly:
Its two wiry thumbs
Helping you prop up a malleable
smile;
Its hand patting your ear,
Yours – friend,
Inviting you to hear it sing:
In familiar voice,
Thrice through octaves, mood, and
melodies:
“Good day to you!”
“Good day to you!”
“Good day to you!”
Today is a good day
To be you,
Affirms your friend,
The Infinite Happiness Machine.
